Google Search: SEO opportunities in 2026
Google still sends most search traffic on the web. In August 2026 it accounted for 91.1% of search engine referrals worldwide, and Google said in 2025 that it handles more than 5 trillion searches a year.
What changed is how many of those searches end in a click. AI Overviews and AI Mode answer more questions on the results page, so the pages that win now are the ones that answer a buyer's specific question better than anyone, or that people click because they need to act: book, buy, call or compare.
For most businesses the fastest gains on Google come from service and product pages that match how customers phrase their searches, plus fixing technical problems that stop pages being indexed.

- Earn links from local press, partners, suppliers and industry associations instead of buying them
How to measure it
